Myofascial Trigger point therapy
I may suggest the use of trigger point therapy to treat your condition. Trigger points are defined as a " circumscribed spot of tenderness [...] of a palpable taut band which a patient may recognize by pain evoked upon pressure of the tender spot." (Travell & Simmons, 1999).
Trigger point therapy is a useful modality to provide pain relief and assist injury rehabilitation.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which a dried plant called Chinese mugwort (Aremesia vulgaris) "Moxa" are burned on or very near the surface of the skin. The technique is generally completed by holding a burning moxa stick close to, but not touching the surface of the skin. The moxa stick looks like an oversized cigar, which is lit on one end, and is held close to the skin to penetrate heat through specific acupuncture points or meridians.
Moxa is indicated for pain due to injury or arthritis, digestive problems and irregular elimination, gynecological issues, protection against cold or flu to name a few.
Gua Sha
Guasa is a scraping technique performed by taking a spoon or specific guasha tool and repeatedly rubbing or scraping the tool on the skin over the sore area.
Guasha is indicated for stimulating blood flow and healing to different parts of the body to lessen the soreness and tightness in muscles. Guasha is indicated for common cold, body aches and pains.
Chinese herbs, liniment patches and oils?
I utilize Herbal Medicine in conjunction with acupuncture or acupressure to treat patients. The herbal manufactures I recommend uphold Good Manufacturing Practices, GMP certified. The products are safe and effective. Herbs help nourish the body, and treat imbalances in the body.
Herbs are an important part of your acupuncture treatment plan, along with lifestyle modifications, diet and exercise.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping Therapy promotes healing of any given area on the body, by moving blood and stagnation. The cups may be made of glass, bamboo or plastic and are placed on the skin to create suction. Serveral cups are used in a specific area on the body and left on for 5-10 mins. Cups can be placed on the body after massage oil has been applied to the skin. They may be moved over a larger area of the patients body to stimulate healing.
The most common areas for cups to be placed are on the neck, back and stomach. Cupping is primarily used for respiratory conditions, gastrointestinal problems, or certain types of pain.
Electro-stimulation Therapy
Electro-acupuncture is a form of therapy in which a pulsating electrical current is applied to acupuncture needles, or without needles to the acupuncture points on the body. The procedure for electro-acupuncture usually involves the needles inserted as in a traditional treatment, but a small electrode is attached to them. The electrode provides a gentle vibration that stimulates the energy running through the points.
Electro-acupuncture is a technique used for a variety of treatments including, neurological disorders and chronic pain.
